WHAT IS BARC?

BARC stands for the Baseline Animal Rehab Center. We are partnered with the Caring Hearts Animal Clinic on Baseline Road, and we specialize in canine physical rehab. Our goal for canine physical rehabilitation is to return your pet to normal function as quickly as possible and to facilitate the pet in performing their activities of daily living. Physical rehabilitation will help to restore joints range of movement and strength while decreasing pain.

Canine physical rehabilitation uses adaptive human physical therapy techniques to improve functionality of muscles and joints, reduce pain, and promote a more rapid recovery from surgery and injuries. Physical rehabilitation also aids in recovering from degenerative diseases, age-related diseases, and obesity.

Physical therapy starts with a thorough initial evaluation to determine diagnosis, prognosis and possible intervention. A customized therapy plan is then developed to address the individual needs.

Benefits

Veterinary rehabilitation is designed to facilitate the process of recovery.

One of the main benefits with physical rehabilitation is not only treating your pet's primary problem, but also identifying, preventing, and treating compensatory changes (secondary problems). When a pet is experiencing physical limitation in a limb, the opposite limb will become overcompensated, resulting in adaptive changes that may now become a primary problem causing pain and physical limitations. Rehab can treat injury, illness, or disease, by reducing pain and restoring function.

Pets of all ages, sizes and breeds can benefit from individualized physical rehabilitation programs that address your pet’s specific needs. For example:

  • Assists in wound healing
  • Improving function of weak or paralyzed limbs
  • Preventing muscle atrophy
  • Providing comfort and confidence in geriatric patients
  • Improved quality of life
  • Improved balance and coordination and limb use
  • Maintenance or increase of fitness condition
  • Enhanced ability to perform daily activities.
  • Prevention of other injuries
  • Enhanced recovery in many orthopedic and neurological conditions
  • Improved orthopedic and neurologic postoperative patient care
  • Improved cardiovascular health
  • Stress reduction
  • Pain management
  • Weight management
  • Reduction of inflammation
  • Improved joints range of motion
